With His stripes we are healed – Isaiah 53:5

2/2016

We saw that the literal translation of Isaiah 53 in speaking about Jesus’ crucifixion referred to Jesus being acquainted with and carrying our sicknesses.  In Hebrew the word choliy means sicknesses though it is translated as griefs in the King James Version or New International Versions.  However Matthew 8:17 in the King James Version or New International Version says that Jesus bore our sicknesses or diseases respectively.  Matthew 8:17 is a quotation of Isaiah 53:4 which confirms that Jesus bore our sicknesses on the cross.  This explains why in verse 5 it says with His stripes we are healed.  Healed of what?  Sicknesses and diseases!

Isaiah 53:5  But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
