How and Why Believing In Healing Means Obeying The Gospel

God’s blessings and abundant grace be upon you as you obey the gospel.  But what does obeying the gospel mean?  Is it the reliance on your works of obedience to a list of do’s and do not’s under the Law? If it does then what is the purpose of grace here in Romans 11:6 ‘ And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.’

Shall we let the Bible explain to us what obeying the gospel means?  Here it is in Romans 10:16  ‘But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?’

Romans 10:16 tells us that believing the Lord’s report is obeying the gospel. What report is this?  It is found in Isaiah as the verse tells us.  In fact it is specifically referring to Isaiah 53 which begins with the very words ‘who has believed our report?’.

Isaiah 53: ‘Who has believed our report?  And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? … He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief.’

In Hebrew the word sorrows is makob which means pain.  And the word grief is choliy which means sickness.  Therefore the Lord is asking if we will believe His report that Jesus is a man of pain and acquainted with sickness.

In verse 4 it says ‘Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows’. Once again in the Hebrew the word griefs is choliy which means sickness and sorrows is makob which means pain.

Let’s read this again using the Young’s Literal Translation: ‘A man of pains, and acquainted with sickness, And as one hiding the face from us, He is despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely our sicknesses he hath borne, And our pains — he hath carried them’

What is the purpose of Jesus bearing our sicknesses and pains? The answer is found here in verse 5 which is so that we have healing – ‘And he is pierced for our transgressions, Bruised for our iniquities, The chastisement of our peace (is) on him, And by his bruise there is healing to us.’

Will you believe this report that Jesus was acquainted with sicknesses?  If you do then you are obeying the gospel. Since Jesus was never sick, the only sicknesses He could be acquainted with is yours and mine.  And since He bore them on Himself then we never need to bear them on ourselves. Let Jesus bear your sickness and receive His healing.
