How do we grieve the Holy Spirit? Whenever we do not minister grace.

8/2013

Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

We are told not to grieve the Holy Spirit of God. What grieves the Holy Spirit ?  Is it sin?

This verse ties directly to the preceding verse. It says don’t speak corrupt / foul / putrefied things. What is putrefied speech? It is what does not minister grace to the hearers. Grace is the undeserved and unmerited favor of God.  So corrupt talk is the opposite of grace.  It refers to condemnation for failures and sins.  Instead of receiving undeserved favor it is the focus on self effort in order to be righteous and to deserve or to earn God’s favor.

Eph 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Receive the undeserved favor of God today.
